This NOS Tung-Sol 6550 with one hole in its grey plates came with three other solid grey plate 6550's and they all have the same date code, 322PD3. It appears to be an original Tung Sol in every respect, including wire O getters and a brown plastic base with the authentic Tung Sol markings on the bottom, except that it does not have 6550 in a diamond on the top. Is this a fluke, a fake or a precious rarity?
Follow Ups:
Interesting, I've never seen one with a single hole before. How does it sound. I have a quad of smooth gray plates that always sounded great.
I'm reluctant to pair it with anything else, so I'm trying it in the only place I have for a single 6550, which is in the power supply of my ARC Ref 3; so far it sounds better there than the stock Winged C it replaced.
...a 14 meg bitmap...and it's out of focus.Image above is OP's original but cropped and reduced to fit on one screen.
Sorry for the mini-rant.
Thanks for your help with the picture - the image only blew up like that when I uploaded it from my harddrive to the picture gallery.
