...but I'm buying particular 'N7s and 'L7s, too.My attitides are--1. No one is making those 60-, 70-, 80-year-old tubes anymore and probably they'll continue to increase in value, and 2. If you don't need the cash for some other part of this obsess...er...hobby, yea, hobby, that's what it is!...why sell them?
That said, anyone need some MM-Ears Tung-Sol 'N7s?

If you have any 50s Brimars, please email me.
If you think that's high, I saw several Telly ECC803S' go for more then $600 each and GZ34/5AR4s around $100+. NOS tubes will always be NOS tubes and aside from there performance will always have some additional value for being correct circa for vintage restorations and maintenance. That being said, with some new production tubes improving in quality and performance there will probably be a price cieling somewhere along the line. Where that cieling lies is anyones quess at this time. It's always nice when something you own goes up in value but like Steve O, I'm also keeping my "hoard" I never intended for my tubes to be an investment, just a supply for my own use. Most of my tubes were purchased 40 or 50 years ago and although I probably have more then a lifetime supply (I'm old) if I had to replace them it would be at today's prices but then again I bought them with yesterday's dollars.

I'll try my best to remember a few purchases but don't take it to the bank. I bought 100 Telly ECC83s (mail order)in the 1960s and paid 85 cents each. In the same order were 20 ECC803S' @ $1.15 each (I should have bought a garage full of them but who knew) There was an RCA tube store in my area sold nothing but tubes. He gave me a good deal was something like jobber less 10 less 5. I used to pay $1.85 for 7199s, $2.25 for 6CA7/EL34s, 5AR4/GZ34 for $1.55. There was also a TV supply house who sold GE and he used to charge $2.20 for 6CA7 fat bottles. EJ Korvettes used to sell Genalex and a matched pair of KT88s ran about $26.00. Fifty years ago the average house had more vacuum tubes then light bulbs. Tubes were plentiful and competition was keen.
don't discount what the cost of living was 40-50 years ago. the minimum wage in the mid '50's-'60's was between $1.00- $1.25/hr.To equal the same buying power today it would have to be somewhere near $10/hr if not more. That matched pair of Genelex KT 88 would be more than half a weeks pay at the minimum wage!! So $250/matched pair of Genelex KT 88's now really isn't more costly than it was then.If you could ever find a pair new that is.
That's what I meant by yesterday's dollars but even taking that into account...

a fool and his money? Maybe it really is time to part with a few tubes!!Unless my adult son and off to college daughter have use for them I have more than enough for my lifetime. But then I just may have enough of most types for their lifetime also.
Best regards
Apparently several fools and those weren't even Gold Lions. If your chrilden are interested in tube equipment, NOS tubes make great gifts.
