They dont look like the ones at Tubemonger...http://www.tubemonger.com/SearchResults.asp?Search=7308&Search.x=19&Search.y=11
Follow Ups:
I bought a 7316 pair from him recently. Tubes tested well.As for the sonic virtues of the 7316 (in an Atma-Sphere MP-3 preamp):
Quiet tubes, neither forward nor bright. In short, on a par with my other choices in this application (TungSol 5814WA, RCA long blackplate 12AU7 and RCA 5814A short blackplate).
I've run over fifteen 12AU7 variants in this preamp with only very subtle differences among them.
Could just be my gear, tin ears or both...
gortnipper,I was interested in the 7316 a long time, and recently bought Valvo ECC186/7316's to join my one Bugle Boy. These Valvos are very similar to the auction tubes with date codes of Ct5 delta 5 (1965) and the tubes in the photo are identical. The construction is identical but really, based on the etched date codes only, the auction tubes are certain to be real 7316's.
The selling price of $18 per tube in the auction is amazingly good for the 7316 these days. The early long plate, D-getters tubes are usually over $60 each now- I've seen them recently at $80- and these later halo getter ones are often $40 each. I felt very lucky to buy 8 NOS of the later short plate, halo getter Ct5 at $21 each (including shipping)- a "bulk" price. The 1963 Bugle Boy I bought earlier was the most expensive single tube I've bought at $40.
Opinions vary as to the sonics of the various incarnations of 7316- I think there are three identified- some say the early D-getter ones are definitely better, some say they're all about the same- our friend TVR2500m is the fellow to ask.
Cheers,
Maybe, maybe not.
