Glass is also made of silicon, so the point's well taken.
Silicon is quite abundant on earth in the form of sand.

I am happy, I have gone down the tube path...
as sand amps. Mostly guys who sold audio gear in the 70's for whatever reason.
Rumor has it that there are better design concepts for SS amps than those that have been traditionally used for the past forty years or so. An SS amp is supposed to be capable of producing sound just as good as any tube amp, provided that it's designed properly. My own preference for tube amps is due to my upbringing and personal experience, i.e., prejudice!
And it takes an attention to detail of matching transistors to precision paramaters. Something many manufacturers embracing quick and dirty profits don't want to do! Ray Hughes
