Does the Cayin TA30 (or any other of the similar entry level Tube Amps, like Melody etc) actually have an active pre or are all of the tubes actually part of the power-amp section?I've been looking at some tube power amps and they seem to be equipped with the exact same tubes, but they lack the entry selection and the volume button.
The background of my question is that I have put a passive pre (Creek OBH22) in front of my Cayin, so I can have a remote control and a Tape loop, so I'm not using the volume knob and the entry selector of the Cayin anyway and maybe I could buy a nice Tube Power Amp (or mono blocks) to replace the Cayin TA30, without losing anything on the pre-amp side of things....
Follow Ups:
Most Chinese entry level integrated tube amps are basically power amps with a passive volume control like the highly regarded Melody SP-3.
You can simply use the Cayin as a power amp by turning up fully the volume and connect it to the Creek OBH22 as a pre amp.
...that confirms my assumption, and it works just fine...
In order to use the Cayin TA 30 as a power amp i believe you must also plug the input of your pre amp. into the CD input RCA and have the volume control all the way up.
