I'm upgrading the linestage tubes in my McIntosh MA2275 but am unsure which 12AX7's are the linestage and which are for the phonostage. The manual doesn't specify...???? Any help????
Thanks

there is a good reason for that..Your actual preamp and phono stage is solid state even tho it says preamp tubes, they are really the driver PS for the kt88s..You have 2 12ax7s and one 12at7 per channel and basically I would use vintage telefunkens like the original ma230s did.Even used they usually are stronger than any new 12ax7 you can buy..The mullards or amperex are also a good choice.
If you are going to go with new, talk to Jim Mcshane because he has the new reissue mullards or Im sure he has vintage tubes he can sell you to.
You've completed confused me, which unfortunately isn't say too much these days. That said, it was my belief that both the pre and amp of this intgrated are tube driven. As a matter of fact, it was Jim McShane whom I purchased these AX's from. Considering that I run a phono amp he recommended only replacing the linestage tubes. Thus my coundrum (sp?): which of the 4 AX7's are the linestage and which drive the phono section????
The 12AX7's drive the KT 88's and the 12AT7's are for the phono stage. What 12AX7's did you get? CV4004 Mullards are excellent and much better sounding than the stock tubes.
