Hello inmates,
What is a more suitable project/circuit for a beginner DIYer? Where are the sources to buy kits or parts (including tubes, chassis, transformers)?
Is the ST70 project from Dynaco-Doctor a good choice?Thanks.

Martin,
This might be shorter:
Go to Jim McShane's site and buy the kit. If you need help, read the El Cheapo thread on decware.com.rick
Hi ,
My vote goes for triode strapped PL504 , 13EM7 driver and PY500A rectification . Got some very nice sounds out of an amp with these , and used a toroidal mains transformer as an output transformer . It was more or less a Williamson but without the driver . I used a 450V supply for the 13EM7 input stage/concertina and a 250V supply for the PL504 . Got four clean watts out of the thing , only downside is it requires lots of transformers for the heaters and HT supplies and the output stage needs careful balancing to avoid saturating the output transformercheers
Try the products from Shannon at www.diytube.com
Try Dynakitparts.com.
Comparing the Dynakit to a modded Dynaco. The comparison was very positive. It seems like the new Dynakit is worth the effort and it is pretty darn cheap for an amp kit. If I didn't have a Dynaco already I would build one then sub in the Curcio power supply.
It's HARD to get something good at less cost than "El Cheapo". The thread linked below is LENGTHY, but (IMO) worth your time. You'll see how a design is worked out over time.BTW, an added plus to "El Cheapo" is that a preamp is not needed, if a CDP is the signal source.

Thanks. Is there a shorter version?
