This Audio Research SP10 has been listed 10-12 times in the last week, since I've been paying attention. The seller name is always different, and there is always the notation "do not bid! email for a price with shipping. DO NOT BID!" and then an external email link is included. I have notified ebay about this and a dozen other fraud listings in the last week and have pretty much given up as they simply don't have a handle on it. The serial #s on the boxes for the SP10 are all the same in every listing, the ad copy "bought in New Orleans" etc is the same, always a different seller, tho. Plus, look at the CATEGORY the SP10 preamp is listed in "sporting goods; climbing etc" If you look at the "sellers" other items, they are all big ticket, commonly searched for items like plasma TVs, DVD cams, etc etc. There have been so many fraud listings (I've noted and reported a dozen SP10 listings and many more of other goods) that, not to be an alarmist, but it almost appears that someone has hijacked or hacked eBay. The listings I report get cancelled, then pop up again 12 hours later. Signs to look for are the "do not bid"--"email for price" with an AOL address... and weird mis-categorized items. Also, some have had ludicrously low buy it nows, e.g 600 Euros SHIPPED for the Audio Research SP10, shipped from UK! (That was one of the other listings) I became aware of this because of the improbable appearance of 4 seperate listings of SP10s in 12 hours; all different sellers---- the common thread was that EACH SELLER had the EXACT SAME items for sale under "view sellers' other listings" Caveat Emptor in extremis!

either the suckers weren't looking or people have figured out it is not legit. On the other hand it reminds me of a story:
This guy sees an ad in the paper for a almost brand new Porsche for $50. Naturally curious, he calls up, a nice sounding lady answers and says, yes, she has one for sale at $50. Of course, he immediately jumps in his car and zooms over. A pleasant, middle aged woman shows him the car, gives him the keys for a test drive. It is perfect in every way. He drives back over, gives her the $50, then says, "I have to ask you. Why are you selling this gorgeous Porsche for only $50?"
She replies, "It's my husband's car. He ran off with his 25 year old secretary last week. Yesterday I received a telegram from him that read, "Sell the Porsche and send me the money.""
I dont know how but my Ebay account was hijacked on July 3rd for a day. I dont respond to Email unless its a known user. And I have known what "fishing" is for years and have not been a victim of this. I have virus as well as spam protection and also 2 firewalls. I truly believe Ebay has someone on the inside selling passwords.
Ya they pull this with krell stuff somtimes they list 10 items.
These guys get peoples passwords with good feedback and sell on other peoples accounts, get the money and run.If its a private auction its a fake. Ebay is on the way downhill with this shit.
Contact seller first before bidding plus possible buy it now price. Pictures are all borrowed from previous listing.
I've caught a couple of expensive Goodall guitars going for cheap and a couple of Naim amps with the same pix and text. Makes me suspicious of how much they value their site and how well they'd take care of me should I inadvertently bid for a a fraudulent item.
Never bid on 24 hour auctions. They are almost always scams.

I checked back and the listing has been canceled. The email given was cryre99@aol.com--watch for this and the "do not bid" tagline. Why would any reputable seller NOT want bidders?!? Make sure the item is listed in the right category. Also, the English used was pretty good, but a bit clumsy. The SP10 said "email for you best price on stereo"
It's back.

ALL the canceled listings are back, with real monikers, which is what makes me think it's a hack. I can't keep up reporting to ebay fraud dept. so I guess we all have to really be on our toes for a bit, ask questions of the seller, etc. Not to make anyone paranoid.... 99.99% of ebay is NOT this kinda crap, but it IS scary that SOMEONE has the ability to crank out fraudulent listings dozens at a time with OTHER PEOPLE'S REAL MONIKERS!
I wouldn't even dare buy something like.....a rubber stamp, from this a-hole.

until I read the "rubberstamp chick" "store" listing! Hilarious!
I have posted a few alerts, I look at ebay every day and I see these things cropping up, there are loads of them.
Ebay actually threatened me with suspension if I highlighted these but under the guise that my warnings were not items for sale.
They get listing fees, and selling fees, so they are making money on the listings.
The listings do disappear, only to pop up again, once even ebay said he was doing nothing wrong!! with a tel. no and a buy price, that's against the rules for a start.
There are organisations in the uk called trading standards, and office of fair trading, government ones for dodgy dealings and stuff, this sort of thing could actually close ebay down, and about time if they can't stop this sort of thing happening. Its a REAL pain.
