I used to own a PV-10AL before upgrading to the PV-10BL. I mated both with a c-j MV-55 tube amp. I wouldn't use anything besides the CV4003 tube that Upscale Audio sells; the sound is glorious. I might also suggest that you pay extra for the "special c-j test" matching service that Kevin offers. c-j pre-amps are notoriously hard on tubes.
Follow Ups:
I do not find the CJ to be particularly hard on any tube. The design is prone to microphonics, however. That is a different matter.
...it's a very picky unit, but not hard on tubes once you've got the right ones. I'm still using the Amperex Bugle Boy 7316s I got from Kevin years ago and they still sound excellent. The best of anything I rolled into and out of the unit.
Thanks for your reply Mike.CJ quotes 300+ to upgrade from al to bl status. What differences occured.CJ says it's subtle.I'm definitely going to buy the Mullards 4003's from Kevin.
