there won't be any anode voltage. You say that you want to take out the anode and just use the cathode and grid to generate electron pulses. But then you say that the anode voltage won't (shouldn't) be more than 100 volts. If you remove the anode then there won't BE any anode voltage. Am I missing something here?Furthermore, without an anode, you won't likely have an electron flow because you'd have what would basically amount to an open circuit. The anode is there of necessity. Well, fill me on what I'm missing in this question.
Lastly, if you heat the cathode and try to get it to operate in an open atmosphere, it won't last very long. Oxygen will ensure it's speedy demise.

Sorry my bad here, I was trying to be concise and apprently caused more confusion than needed.First of all, the bare cathode and grid will be in vacuum chamber, so they won't burn.
Secondly, I will have another anode in the place of the original one, I need the anode to have specific shape other than those in tubes.
and when I mentioned the 100V anode voltage, I was talking about the tube specs, not what the voltage I want to run. I prefer tubes with lower plate voltage to have more flexiblity.
Thanks a lot for your reply, I hope this clear things a little.John
get a few 6Y6 tubes. They operate from somewhat low plate voltage and can provide a reasonable current flow. Also, they are cheap on ebay. You can also get them from any of the asylum sponsors for not much change.
