I have been using the penta kt88sc tubes in the prologue 2 for a month and love them in the last week they really opened up. I am looking for a nice pair of 12ax7 and 12au7 that are not stupid expensive new production if I can that sounds great and won't break the bank. I was thinking Ei but not sure....system: prologue 2, dhlabs revelation,q-10 cables, rega apollo
Follow Ups:
It's a little warmer than the EI, and MAYBE it has a tad less treble energy. At around $20, it's also quite affordable.
I've got a Prologue 5 and a Prologue 1. I've been running them for some time with EI Elites - grey plates (EI12AXE). I recently changed my source and I find that with the new source the EH 12AX7A a better choice - it tightens up the bass and has a little less energy in the upper-mid range/highs. Mainly I like the bass better. But the EI's work extremely well and initially I preferred them by some margin over the EH's that came with the units. Its also possible that the amp's tone has changed with breakin. Mine are now over a year old and get lots of use.
thanks for the input what are you using for 12au7's and kt-88's?
On the 1 some old Tesla's and on the 5 EH's (I haven't really focused on the AU's on the 5 - the EH's, rebranded as Primaluna, seem OK). I'm using SED KT88's.
