...some of the the history still remains. In a nutshell: Doug and Mike Lefevre (Magnequest) went at it publicly over Doug's reverse engineering and reproduction of vintage Dyna and Peerless iron for which Mike owns the engrg drawings. As I understand the situation, the actual designs themselves are long in the public domain. However, as Guido the pimp stated in a famous film "...(one) shouldn't #$%& with a man's livelihood."
Doug also participated in heated technical discourse regarding the A-A load of of a class A PP output stage and what each tube of the pair actually saw. In this case it appears that Mike's understanding of the technicalities involved was incomplete. Unfortunately, the nastiness that evolved prevented any minds from being changed and there was no face saving way out for either Mike or Doug (IMO of course).
In the end, I suspect the general disruptive nature of the discussions and possibly the potential legal and financial liabilities were too great for the bored to allow the situation to continue. Someone had to go and the rest is history.
If you enjoy Doug’s discussions he can sometimes be found on the Audio Round Table forum under the moniker “tnuctipun” or something like that. Check the “Group Build” forum but watch out for rampant sycophantism.
sycophantism? A horrible disease?
I really want to stay clear of the "debates" which brought about the ban. But I really do not remember Douglas sucking up to anyone. I think that may have been part of the problem....
The description applies to Wayne Parham...the "host" and apparent owner of the site and a few others. Seems that this is a (hopefully temporary) tactic to help build traffic for the site but I find it offputting to the max.Personally, I believe that Doug would be better off with AA Tube DIY and vice versa. Less goes on over there and quality of discourse is spotty.
Sorry for the ambiguity.
Wayne's alright and willing to give any help he can whether in person or online. One thing you hardly ever see "over there" is bad mouthing between people or arguments.
Of course they get along, there are only about 6-8 regulars over there.Perhaps less, if you count "sock-puppets" talking to themselves.
