I just got in several JAN Raytheon 5751s all with early 1960s production dates. These tubes have black plates with windmill getters. They are of the double mica variety. Joe's Tube Lore only talks about the triple mica type. Just curious to see if anyone on the Asylum has heard these double mica types. Thanks!

As said below, this is a lovely sounding tube. One of my favorites as well. Not necessary to count the micas on the earlier Raytheon 5751s - most sound great in the correct environment. Even the later Westinghouse branded ones are about as delightful.
The Raytheon Windmill getters are by far my favorite 5751. Excellent detail, good treble, killer bass, and a real deep soundstage. In some systems they could be a tad cool sounding, but in mine, they are by far the best 5751/12AX7 type.

jcoe,
The following is from Joe's Tube Lore:"Update:
In my part 3 installation above, I identified the Raytheon as a 3 mica spacer design. It is in fact a 2 mica spacer with a "windmill" getter that looks more than a bit like a 3 spacer design on quick glance - I should have checked closer."As far as I know, the 'windmill' tubes are of a 2 mica design. I am currently using them in my Jolida CDP and am very happy with them. They rate right up there with the 3-mica RCA 5751's.
Yes Joe those are fabulous tubes. The 5751 is a low noise 12ax7 and being those are mil spec black plates makes them more special and valuable. If you want to sell them email me.
