Looking at claud's posting history, the first mention of Groove Tubes was April 1, 2005 when he mentions having just installed some GT-12AX7-M in his "EE Minimax phono" pre. That's the first mention of GT in 5 years as a registered inmate.Lot of talk about NOS tubes and tube rolling but no Groove Tubes until this April.
Sounds like he really likes these 12AX7 tubes. Lots of others seem to like them too.
So, which of GT's competitors are YOU working for?
There seems to be a little stable of inmates who attack any post that says anything good about GT. I'm getting a little suspicious, but I'm pretty new over here from Vinyl Asylum, so maybe I'm late to the party and don't understand?

In the early days they would advertise all kinds of promises, but the tubes really did come from a lowest bidder. Chinese often.
Today, they actually do manufacture some of their own tubes. Others still do come from "sources" apparently.
I didn't learn until recently they were manufacturing their own 12AX7, and now a couple other tubes too, I guess.
Having nothing personally against the company as they have done nothing to me personally, I still do not buy their tubes simply because I've heard so much about their past and there are so many other choices anyway.
To the original poster:
Many people are happy with the GT power tubes and preamp tubes. Try them if you're curious. It does you no harm if you don't like them, and you'll never know if you like them or not if you don't try them.
It's not like you're trying to fill your gas tank, or something, as far as the money aspect goes.

The flammers usually don't have any manners. Welcome to the Tube Forum. I also have noticed a few attacks against Groove Tube. I guess you can't satisfy every body. I am happy with mine. Their main customers-- guitar players-- seem happy too.
"Their main customers-- guitar players-- seem happy too."That is completely untrue. On most boards, a preponderance of people who have tried these tubes complain of many problems including poor sound.
I've heard them and they aren't even remotely close to a Mullard, let alone any other NOS tube, and cannot even stand with any current manufacturer for that matter. GT's qa is non existant, which explains the high microphony rate after a few hours.
Were they the grade 8-10s that are supposed to be best for audio, not guitar amps? Have you ever heard the E34LS GTs in an audio amp? The most truthful answer is most likely no.You are just an anti GT shill. If not please share with us your personal experience with GT tubes as I have.
Would never buy them after being involved in listening tests and observing their history. There are just too many alternatives to choose from.Ya know, I just noticed you called me a shill. Do you know something I don't know?
