Douglas, I'm a big fan of JB Weld, I should try to put a few back together.I've got a Cary preamp that hides the bottom of the tube anyway, I don't really care about the metal band myself. I'm a little afraid to use them because they seem to have a high mortality rate. I got another 5-6 loose from the same lot and 2 crashed very quickly. They sounded good for the day or two they lasted...
Follow Ups:
I have seen those "die" early too (noisy/crackling sounds). It turns out the solder in the pins had corroded and/or cracked. Re-soldering the pins fixed them...
Phil, now I'm a little upset that I tossed two. I do have a solder gun and can almost operate it.
saved a number of tubes I thought at first to be bad by resoldering them. Where did you throw those?ja in clear and sunny, today anyway, Tucson, AZ
The Elaborate DAC=55/76 or 27 Balanced Preamp=Balanced Six Pacs=Newform Research 645
