Hello everyone...I have an old Dynaco SCA-35 Integrated amp.I have to replace the output tubes (6bq5's),and was wondering what current production tubes would work the best and sound good?
Follow Ups:
they'll be under-running and should last well.they are not the absolute sweetest of the family but the whole family is kinda nice imE&o.
IN NoS I have only ever heard loacl AWA and AWV 6bq5's, nice, and of int'l stock, Mullard NoS, and National (japanese) 7189's = to the EL84M.
These latter were the nicest sounding very clear, flat FR and lovely yet crisp tube treble. NB this was before I went to low gain/Mu, high GM input and driver tubes, changed the circuit, much lower NFB there inherently and I used SFA, so I was able to nail the opt stage down with NFB, though total NFB is still lower.
Since then changing output tubes can't have so big an influence.

I just can not recommend any new 6BQ5 unless used in a guitar amp. For a few dollars more, no vintage I heard (and that is many) outperforms GE 6BQ5 grey oval plate. It is to the point, no GEs & I would not use my amp.
Aside from the JJ previously mentioned, the Russian EL84M (6p14p-eb) is also a good choice. Sadly, until quality control problems across the board are resolved, EI can't be recommended.AA sponsor Triode Electronics carries both the JJ and Russian tubes at attractive prices.

JJ EL84/6BQ5 is an excellent tube.
