Bernd,I don't know your phono preamp apecifically, but if you don't wish to use the CV492s, which are later and perhaps not quite as refined, you might still like the older Siemens and Halske ECC83 or E83CC. I am still using the Siemsn ECC83 supplied by Audio Research in 1985 in my SP8/II preamp in both the phono and line stages. These are very lively with very good bass and detail. ?Very nice. I will eventually use the Siemens E83CC triple mica- these are not everyone's taste as theyare so fast as to be almost percussive, but I like them tremendously.
I'm not certain. but the 5751 with it's lower gain may not give enough gain for a MC cartridge- you might have to increase the gain to the point the noise increases.
Also, instead of the very expensive Telefunken, you might try the older Tesla gold pin copy of the Telefunken ECC803S (not the JJ ECC83S). These are not terribly expensive and give a quite subtle sound- very nice for classical!
For a very traditional, smooth, warm sound I like the old aquare getter Sylvanias- liquid music!
Immer mit dem Audio ist Komplikationen, endlose Zahl von Meinungen und viel Kosten kommen!
Gruss,
Hello Bambi,

Hello ,
'Siemens CV492' , unusual that a German manufacturer labels with a UK government designator . Either the valves are relabelled or very late production , and by late production I mean there is a possibilty that these were sourced from Ei . Any pictures ? If the valves are Siemens there should be a +- etch code
Hello FB,
Thanks for your reply. I think you are right about these tubes. I have just come of the phone to siemens in Berlin ( I am from germany, but life in England), and the word is that these are sourced from Ei. I have paid to much for something I did not want. Well thats life. I am thinking about telefunken ecc83 or the ge 5751.
Any advice would be gratefully received.
Peace
Bernd
Hi Bernd ,
I have seen these Ei manufactured Siemens branded CV492 pop up on Ebay occasionally . I guess these are from early 80's production .ps Are you local to West London by chance ?
cheers
Hello FB,
Thanks for your response. I am just outside Manchester.
Peace
Bernd
