Any ideas about that. Someone claimed that:
"My tube manufacturer and distributor has legally purchased the Mullard brand of tubes. He has had the engineers in his Russian factory reverse engineer these EL34 tubes to match the specifications of the original single-getter Mullard EL34 tubes. These tubes are Russian manufactured genuine Mullard brand tubes and do not violate any copyright or trademark regulations."
Follow Ups:
I am actually staring at a set of 'new' Mullard EL34's sitting in front of me.Recently, New Sensor announced that they puchased the Mullard and Tung-Sol brands. And they announced "new" Mullard EL34 and "new" Tung-Sol 6550 at the same time.
The announcement came with photos of each tube. From the photos, I couldn't tell if they were just a re-label of some tubes made at Reflector factory as some have speculated.
The following is my obsrevation.
I compared the 'new' Mullard EL34 (0408 date code) with Electro-Harmonix EL34EH (0312) and S-logo Svetlana EL34SV (0302) side by side. Just to make sure, any "Mullard EL34" reference is to this "new" Mullard EL34.
The plate box look the same on all of them: EH, Svet and Mullard.
The micas of Mullard EL34 are the same as the ones used on Svet EL34 and are held using the same spring arrangement, unlike EL34EH's. The grid wire support rod attaches to the attachments to the micas like on EL34EH.
Interestingly, I can see the grid wires wound all the way to the top inside on EH and Svet EL34's, but not on these Mullard's.
Externally, the measured bottle diameters are: EH 1.15" Svet 1.25" Mullard 1.17". Height can vary a lot on these EL34's, so it's not worth measuring and comparing.
The Mullard EL34 base measurements are the same as EH EL34, which is different from Svet EL34. EL34EH base is black and Mullard EL34 base is brown - the color is brighter brown than that of Svet EL34's.
So, from what I can see in front of me, the 'new' Mullard EL34 is neither a relabeled EL34EH nor EL34SV, or any Reflector made EL34 for that matter.
For actual characteristics, these new Mullard tubes are being abused and listened to as I type this. I hope to have comparison measurements using my Dynaco ST70 in a couple of weeks.
And on the side note, the 'new' Tung-Sol 6550 are going through the same evaluation. I'm liking what I hear on my Citation II so far.
As far as I know, there is no quantity pricing yet, since there is no quantity. Without quantity pricing and supply, dealers can't really set a price to sell quantity. So I wouldn't trust any pricing I see now.
As many of you already know, New Sensor now owns the Mullard, Tung-Sol, and Genalex trademarks. The new Russian made Mullard EL34 and Tung-Sol 6550 began shipping to dealers last week in *very* limited quantities. According to the folks at New Sensor, these tubes are not simply rebadged versions of earlier Reflector designs. While the plate structure of the Tung Sol appears to be identical to the Sovtek 6550WE, the Tung Sol has the triple getters and (obviously) the ST shape envelope. The Mullard EL34, on the other hand, appears to be identical to the Reflector production Svetlana EL34. I'll be receiving a shipment of both types next week, I'd be happy to report back with any differences more substantial than those I can glean from the photos.By the way, while the eBay seller is forthright in disclosing the pedigree of these tubes, his markup is a bit obscene (and $12.50 Priority shipping for a package under one pound is about eight bucks too much.) In addition, considering the tubes began shipping only a week ago (a few days later if you ordered them in matched sets) with an initial limit of ten tubes per dealer, I find it hard to believe the abundance of positive testimonials on his listings are genuine.

Rupert,"OTK2" reminds me of Reflector made Sovtek EL34's. The structure looks a lot like these tubes & not Mullards. I'm hoping that the tone follows the classic big brown based Mullards.
But, if you think about it, if the tone of these new tubes ruled---why would you put a "Mullard" label upon them? The true manufacturer should be proud of their product & their name. No?
just a note....

Douglas
