The GE is an okay tube, not bad for the price, but not a great tube by 6SN7 standards either. The choice between the coin-base and the GE is a no-brainer: never ever take the coin-base over any other 6SN7. I think this is what Robert was saying, and if so I fully agree. Here's ten 6SN7s I'd recommend(in no particular order):
Tung Sol round plate 6SN7GT/VT-231
Sylvania 6SN7W (any of the three versions)
Brimar 6SN7GTY/CV1988
Sylvania VT-231/6SN7GT
Ken Rad VT-231 (black or clear glass)
National Union Gray Glass
National Union Black Glass
Raytheon VT-231/6SN7GT
RCA 6SN7GT/VT-231 gray glass
Telefunken 6SN7GTA (I don't care if these are "real" or not, but they sound nice).
Follow Ups:
Len,What? No brown based Raytheon JAN-6SN7WGT? GE and Sylvania 6SN7GTA aren't too bad, either (black plates, of course).
Yes, Raytheon early VT-231 brown base- good tube.
Hehe. The list gets pretty long, so I chose my top ten. The Raytheon and Sylvania WGT are nice tubes as are the Syl GTAs along with CBS/Hytron 6SN7GT, Tung Sol GTB tallboys, et al.
