Allright Doug, you got my attention. Let's hear about them.Geez, where do you find this stuff?
Follow Ups:
Actually, these seemingly obscure Krohn Hite amps are fairly common laboratory amps designed to drive any manner of transducer. They are model DCA-10 (R version is rackmount) and were made until fairly recently. I think a lot of people still use them as K-H still wants 100 bucks for a service manual, but I downloaded it for free online from a Penn State physics dept. page, I believe.
Per the manual, the amp can be used into any load of 10 ohms or more, although they recommend for the rated 10 watts over 1hz to 500Khz with given distortion specs, that the load be between 600 and 1Kohm. It says the amp will handle reactive loads (ie. a speaker) but there is no telling whether or not it will really sound decent driving a speaker, let alone remain stable under such low loading.
Output tubes are 6GT5, I believe.
It's quite interesting to see a tube amp with flat frequency response of DC to 1Mhz!
There are some vintage 600ohm drivers out there, both electro dynamic and pm. One of these days I going to have to come up to PA and check your collection and Douglas' porch.
I might even let you inside too!welcome anytime, just warn me.
regards,
Douglas
