There is a tube preamp that I am interested in buying on Audiogon. It is in mint condition except one of the RCA output jacks is not dead tight. It will turn slightly instead of being stationary. The seller claims it doesn't effect the preamp soncially. Does anyone know if that's accurate or not? Your feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

The loose output jack can be tightened easily, so do not let that worry you. Just open the unit and see what it holding the RCA jack in place and cinch it down. Usually it is just a flat nut that is threaded onto the post.
First, thank you all for your feedback.Have a little experience in opening up solid state units.... but was a little concerned about getting into trouble when doing the same with a tube preamp. Figured I might be opening up a real can of worms for myself. The preamp is a Cary. Any special precautions to take when doing so.
The seller of the preamp sent me a photo of the output jack. It doesn't appear to be real loose simply turning slightly.
I thought I'd chime in here, as I had a loose jack in my preamp, and the one that was loose was hidden behind a mass of wires and components. To tighten it, I used a long, thin screwdriver with a sharp corner on the blade. I was able to get the sharp point to make a small impression on the edge of one of the flats of the nut and then I tapped it gently to turn the nut (while holding the jack gently with pliers and a piece of cloth). If you can't tighten it, you might try slipping a thin piece of shim stock between the jack and the chassis, but be careful about using dissimilar metals so you don't create a chemical reaction between them. You should be able to find copper shim stock somewhere.
By the way, is it a Wright preamp? It seems to be a chronic problem with his gear. But probably the only fault you'll find, as he makes some damn fine equipment.
