Some have a maximum voltage for good sound.
Capacitance of resistors - negligible.

Resistors do in fact have a voltage rating that varies with the size of the body and type of element. Some manufacturers list this; some don't. For the voltages present in 845 HV supplies (assuming three resistors in series), 3-5W metal oxide resistors are generally required for safety.
Here's a link to a Xicon data sheet for their metal oxide power resistors. The table near the bottom of page 1 shows ratings for the various sizes.
Sorry, I wasn't clear on that. What I meant was, based on the capacitors you are putting in series and the voltage you want to run through them, can you calculate the value of the resistor to use?
