If I had a truck I coulda grapped the transformers. Several hundred pounds of large gauge square copper magnet wire. If bigger is better that wire should really make your Eico sing!I did grab six large toroidal inductors (and 3 smaller EI type) that look to be wound with 10 gauge magnet wire. It seems a shame to unwind them just for the wire but WTF, they were free.
With luck I'll have two more to scrap out in the near future. So if anyone has a truck and needs some 3phase/480 transformers/inductors give me a holler and I'll see what I can do.

I'd be glad to rip up some of the abandoned RR track behind my house and ship it to ya. Should make dandy grid wiring. Ha, ha, ha...
Might make a nice ground buss.Checked out scrap metal prices lately?
In some parts of the world train travel has become particularly dangerous as people are ripping out sections of track in the middle of the night to sell for scap.
You might have a gold mine in your back yard!
Ground bus indeed. If i did this to my local track i'd also be sure to grab the adjacent 700VDC line. :-)
Guys.... railroad tracks already come in parallel pairs, lowmu sez two has GOT to be better than one.
As I mentioned I have a few UPS's that are being replaced. I might be able to grab the batteries. Basically a string of 48 gell cells in series for 480VDC. Not sure of the amp rating but average old time car battery size. So, ever run an amp off pure DC? Are the sonics worth the risk of having that many batteries sitting in your house? I have to admit the idea kinda scares me. Jeez could you imagine what would happen if something fell on them and created a dead short!!!
I hope that's not prophetic. ie; deadI think I would build a "dog house" just outside my listening room so the batteries would not be in my house.
