Its a superb cleaner but everytime I have worked with it extensively,I had developed a cough like and cant clear my throat for a day.
What made me realize this was I had taken it to school and my automotive students were using it on the body control module in GM A body car and all of a sudden two students started getting sick and coughing uncontrollably and one had some temporary chest pains but it passed..I know it was from the dexoit because it happened to be a couple times when I was using it liberally so you have to be well ventillated when you using that stuff.
Has anyone else had any similar problems with the dexiot chemicals?

The Material Safety Data Sheet for the product lists your symptoms as possible outcomes of exposure. The MSDS advises the use of a respirator.I've never had a problem using this stuff at home...but in a teaching environment with higher volumes of stuff being used a mask might be a good precaution....

Hi Michael:
I have noticed a release of some noxious gas when soldering a tube socket that had been sprayed with Deoxit. It made me cough as you described.Another problem I have had with Deoxit is that it can dissolve the carbon track in certain brands of potentiometers, especially cheaper ones like Marshall amps use.
I am now using Caig Preservit (in the blue can) instead of Deoxit for these reasons.

on controls I use the calilube and on the switches I use deoxit 5 such as slide and band switches..I noticed the new cans of deoxit I have here says f5 fader lube but I still have 6 new cans of the deoxit 5 left.Im wondering if this is the changed formula..The reason I bought this f5 was I needed to complete a 350 dollar parts order to get free shipping so I added 2 cans of this on the bill.
I have also noticed the gas and the smoke when soldering and I know it has to be toxic. What really cracks me up is in the late 80s how they were bitching about the freon and freon derivitives they had in electronic cleaners being they were bad for the ozone and now we get this deoxit stuff that chokes you to death..Go figure and its suppose to be environmentally friendly.
