Does anyone know the contact ratings of the tube type Amperite
delay relays? Would one be able to switch the primary of a
120V 60VA transformer?

Hi.To lower the loading of your power iron, why not consider a simple but very efficient solution: a time-adjustable relay.
A NTE timer relay only asks for a few bucks, operable from 12V to 240VAC. Cool running, no heater to power. Of course, it would not look so appealing like a tube relay.

Yes, would be OK, as they are 3A contacts. The data sheet below does NOT include something I remember from a data sheet in the '70s... they recommended that you latch a relay and switch the relay heater off when the contact closes. This does three things...1) Extends heater life
2) Contact bounce doesn't matter - and the OFTEN do bounce
3) It's ready for another delay cycle without waiting for cooldown. You need a DPDT 120V relay (or whatever the relay heater voltage is)
> they recommended that you latch a relay and switch the relay heater off when the contact closesI've always used them that way. The only caveat - it might be a nuisance if you live in an area that experiences frequent, momentary power dropouts. When that happens, the relay won't allow your gear to come back on until it heats again.
