I can hardly imagine a break-in periode would solve the lacking LF response . caps however seem to prefer a sort of break-in periode .
27 fantastic tube ! are we talking mesh or solid plate here ?
Good Luck
Follow Ups:
My bass problem had to do with breaking in, most of the times when something in my system has changed I am missing the high tones, this time it was the oposite. At the moment I am using a pair of Cunningham 327s (one of them is heavy microphonic), I also have a pair of RCA 227, one of this pair is also very microphonic. The inside of the two pairs look exactly the same the only difference is the filement tensioner so maybe I mix the pairs for less microphonics. But since I use sorbothane between socket and chassis it is acceptable, I also use a sheet of mu-metal to cancel hum that strays into the tubes.
Kinda PITA concerning microphonics . especialy when talking preamp application . I ran dozens of mesh globes to get to that one lucky quiyet pair . noise and microphonics .. brr .. decent cathode decoupling turned out helpful in my case . gutsy electrolyt .
BTW , some of the Arcturus 127 detectors I got here are absolutely dead silent , but not as smooth sounding in comparison with the mesh variëty . those nickel plates however does a perfect job , very precise and detailled .It sounds like you'r dealing with a pretty sensitive power amp(s) ?
Fairly high efficient LS system too .. It just sound so familiar to me :-)
My poweramps indeed are rather sensitiv, my 805 needs 450mV for full power (45W) and my 300B amps are sensitiv too 250mV and 350mV for full power. I use AudioNote type E speakers with about 91dB efficiency.
Have a look at http://www.jogis-roehrenbude.de/Leserbriefe/RKoridon-Amp/805-Story.htm for my system. It's German (I'm not, I'm from the Netherlands) but the pictures and schematics are worth a visit.Ronald Koridon,
