I'm still having problems with my Kenwood KX-2060. After a short time of play the pitch begins to vary. The belts are new and I cleaned the pinch roller and applied non-slip. the roller itself looks to be in good condition. Could this be the motor? If so, should I try to replace it or is there something else that might cause this fluctuation in pitch?
thanks
Jeff

Do you have access to a wow and flutter meter? Usually, not always, if the W&F is stable, the culprit is the motor, however, if the pinch is out of round, wow should be OK but flutter will be excessive. Good luck.
Try to replace pinch roller anyway. I did have the same problem with one 2060, it was bad roller, although old one looked fine. With the new one, everything was O.K.
Otherwise, this machine have a simple transport, there is not much what can go wrong.
Check the motor itself for some excessive noise or vibrations and measure if there is some fluctuation on DC supply for motor.
If there is problem with motor, bad bearings, just disassemble it, clean and lubricate.
Of course, if you did not damage the on-board motor electronics, DC stabilization and pitch control..
thanks! where can I get a pinch roller for this?
I used the one from newer broken Technics deck, it worked fine.
I did try to get old one back to life, brushed an polish it, but it only get worse..
Best is to remove the old one and measure it, full width and the diameter of the axis.
There are some new generic rollers to be purchase from web that have right dimensions.Regards
I messed around with the speed control quite a bit trying to speed it up! I think I probably messed up the motor. Any ideas where I might get one? Studio sound sells 4 universal motors in different voltages and directions. Has anyone ever used them?
thanks again
Jeff
Hello.Consider first replacing the pinch roller anyway. you can replace the pinch roller for another suitable or you can replace just the rubber of the pinch roller like I did.
Here I paste a previous message from mine:
I received it weeks ago. Tapes only played without audible wow and flutter up to ten or fifteen minutes. And it stoped completely about 40 minutes (for a 60 min tapes). I tried hard to clean the pinch rollers, but they were definetively worn out and hardened. So I decided to try the following.I took a pinch roller from a broken, very cheap portable radio-cassette. As the axis of the pinch roller is bigger in the Revox, I couldn't just simply replace one of them. With one little screw driver and my fingers I took out the black rubber. I tried to do the same on the old revox pinch roller. But It was worn out and I had to remove it with a little knife, cutting and scraching it. Then, I made a lot of pressure to get the metallic central part of the pinch roller to get inside the hole of the good rubber. This way I rebuild the pinch roller.
--------- END OF PASTED-----------
About the motor... first get pinch rollers working and then you probably will set the speed fine again.
