I am just getting back into cassette recording after several years. I have a question about tape types to use. I have two Nakamichi decks, MR-1 and LX-5. I have read somewhere that metal tapes are less prone to wear the tape heads. Is this true?
Follow Ups:
You are right about the head wear. But don't forget that the Nak's probably utilise a pressure pad lifter which should reduce the wear compared to other decks without this device. Ben
Sorry, I meant that the respondents were correct, Metal tapes cause most wear. Ben
Actually I thought it was the other way around. Metal tapes are like sandpaper that wear heads faster. Someone correct me if Im wrong.
So does Chromium Dioxide but to a lesser degree. That was one of the reasons behind TDK's development of SA (Super Avilyn) to give sonic advantages of 70us EQ and Chrome with the wear advantages of Ferric oxide. But this doesn't stop me from using Metal or chrome, nothing lasts forever.
