My nakamici 600 has been playing very nicely for the last couple of months since I got it. Tonight however it started stopping mid-tape as if it has reached the end. Not sure what the problem is. Tried several different tapes and it did it on all of them, though some played longer than others before it happened. Anyone got any idea as to what is wrong?
Thanks
Vince

Very strange... I checked in the service manual trouble shooting section and one of the possiblities it gave was a bad tape counter. Just for yucks I zeroed out the counter and tried again... no more problem. I can only guess that it must have been hung up and zeroing it cleared the jam. Anyone else ever have this happen?

More than likely the FF/REW idler arm is starting to bind, a typical problem with 600s. To fix this right will require a major dis-assembly of the transport, an easy fix just time consiming to do it.
The FF/REW idler arm drives the take-up reel table. If the arm binds and the idler wheel doesn't make contact with the take-up reel table and the take-up reel table isn't turning the machine will stop. The belt that drives the counter is on the take-up reel table which also drives the reed switch ass'y which tells the machine if the take-up reel is turning.
