I have a Montgomery Ward 8 track tape recorder and it records fine on tracks 1 and 2 but the right channel is missing on 3 and 4. It plays prerecorded tapes fine with no crosstalk, but wont record correctly.
Follow Ups:
So I took the 8 track recorder apart and found that the problem was that sound wasn’t getting from the input on the circuit board to the tape head and it just broke in the middle of recording. I don’t understand circuit boards so I decided to go to Ebay and bid $20 on a Lafayette 8 track recorder.
Why not just pick up another recorder? There's a bunch currently listed on ebay. The Panasonic recorders were nice; I had one for many years.
I’m getting pissed off at this machine. I have no clue what’s wrong with it. Should I buy a new 8 track recorder or break down and get a cassette player for my 68 Impala. The car is far from stock but I’ve tried to keep it true to the period.
