Hi, Mike:You might try wetting the area with some lighter fluid or other solvent, such as denatured alcohol. Do not try to clean rubber parts with denatured alcohol or use it to clean recording heads, however.
Normally, lighter fluid seems to dissolve gunked-up old grease fairly easily.
It also works to free up very stiff potentiometer control shafts.
Follow Ups:
Thanks Richard,Not sure where to apply the lighter fluid. The arm appears to be connected to the deck beneath a long metal tube about 2 inches long perpendicular to the arm. It looks like the arm should rotate on a shaft coming out from the deck in the middle of this tube. However, if this is the case, then the arm is stuck to the shaft because when I force arm movement they both moeve. Is the arm suppose to slide off a shaft? If so, its stuck real good and I don't think any fluid would seep in between to dissolve old grease. Its hard to explain so I hope that you can see what I am trying to explain.
Also, How come no alcohol on the heads? That is what I always used as a kid. Used 99% though because the medical grade contained 10% water. Anyway, I hope that it will survive one application.
Thanks again.
Hi, Mike:I do not know what else to recommend in order for you to free up the arm in question, but answer to your other question is simple:
Certainly, you can clean recorder heads and pinch rollers with ISOPROPYL alcohol, just avoid the use of DENATURED alcohol.
Go for it!
Are you sure the pinch wheel arm is not attached with a circlip? They can be very small and easily overlooked!Just a thought
