Good point MarkW. I seriously doubt though that r2r users like we are can make much of a dent compared to the orders that will be coming in from studios that specialize in analog tape recording. There are a whole lot of them too! Here's just another reason for ATR Magnetics to get their act together and release their tape. OK,.. I know, I know,.. there are a few of our r2r brothers out there that think ATR's tape is just a big hoax. But, just in case it isn't, maybe Quantegy's ending production will put a fire under them before every studio bias 'all their machines to RMGI.
Follow Ups:
..he indicated that the ATR was not really going to be avail. for 1/4" consumer grade. More for 1/2" mastering tape. He may have just been feeding me a line cause he's selling the new Emtec stuff.
I have read in a couple of places that people have recieved samples of the new tape. So maybe they really are getting going and it does take a while with a startup to get a big enough stock pile so you can meet demands. Would do to take 4 weeks to fill orders that would be worse.
I have some of the RMGI 911 tape. I'll be able to evaluate it after I get my deck re-biased to use it. I'm taking it in tomorrow and should have it back within a week.
..I had been scoping the 1 mil LPR35 and if you say really good things of the 911, i will assume (uh oh) that generally the new emtec stuff is as solid as the eraly reports have indicated.Nothing like 'reel" consumer reports from an inmate though.
cheers, marc
