I've not heard of this iteration. Is it a marketing slogan gimmick or is there something to the "capsule" descriptor? Are these just standard maxell metal type IV cassette tapes? Any feed back from folks would be appreciated!
Follow Ups:
Howdy,Metal Capsule tapes from Maxell are perfectly good type IVs - these heralded the gradual introduction by tape manufacturers of more affordable metals to the market. It was a good move and introduced many to the entirely different and superior sound of metal. What new metal users discovered though, was that their cheaper decks could not handle the higher rec head current needed for them.
You will not be disappointed and they won't let you down - they are on a par with Maxell MX - but the shell, while trouble-free is assembled more affordably. Equivalents sonically would be Maxell Metal CD, and Sony SR Metal.
I have one of these tapes. It is one of the few tapes my Sony 3 head deck didn't like. The tape kept on creasing for some reason, getting chewed. So the tape never got fully used for normal use.
I to have a Sony TCK-677ES 3 Head deck and it plays and records every tape fine exept the Maxell "Metal Capsule" cassettes. As soon as i hit play or record it munches them up and i could never figure out why the deck seems to single out these tapes only?
.
Just a marketing gimmick.
Thanks oldglide. I have read a few blurbs on the internet from folks warning others to stay away from these but they give no reason as to why. That can frequently be an indicator that their is no real reason or that some hearsay is being passed on as fact, etc.I think I read comments that the shells were somehow differently shaped (again maybe some sort of gimmick) but have not read anything re the shape being for better performance or anything re the actual tape and whether it is better, worse or the same as their other metals.
