I have a solid grip on taping everythign except opera. The dynamics screw me up every time-especially on older recordings where the background noise is more apparent. Anybody got any tips??

What's the medium; digital or analog? Thanks Ray

Should have mentioned that. This is a digital to R2R conversion I'm attempting.
Opera can demand great dynamic range. Using a compressor to analog is going to give you very attenuated dynamics. You'd have to move the tape at 30 ips in an analog recorder to be satisfied. And the track would have to be at least 200mils wide. I'd live with the noise or keep it digital. Ray
