Hi,I just recently sell this deck to a friend that collects Silver-gear. I received it in slightly bad condition, broken power switch, bad belts and so on.. So I did spend some time on it.
(On a pictures you posted also look like Power-switch knob is broken..? )
It has a very god audio circuitry, playback and recording sounds extremely well.
Bias and Rec-level settings are very simple to adjust; you should just adjust levels for both channels
to a center-red LED in a LED bar-graph.
Otherwise, mechanics on this deck is not so great, compared to other High-End Double-Capstan designs. It is a Single-motor, Single-Capstan, belt drive.
I did have some problems with speed stability, but with new belt and new capstan it works without
a problem.
It is for sure great piece, for me one of the nicest “ Silver-decks”…
Follow Ups:
Davorin,Thanks a lot for the fast answer!!!
Someone at last who had used this deck - I also tried on several other forums and got zero response.
I don't know yet if I'll have to replace the capstain roller.
Was it hard to find the replacement?
Where did you get it?Whn I searched for KX-2060 with Google, I stumbled upon your old ad and I realized that you are from Maribor!
I'm from Belgrade :-)Can you be more specific on using rec and bias calibration?
Maybe step by step instructions?
Is it used together with that 400Hz and 10kHz tone generator?
If not, what is it for?It also has this dolby switch with double function - what is this other "filter" for? What "double dolby system" inscription on the deck stands for?
Thanks again,
Hi,Well, about the settings.
• Put in some new, god quality tape
• Set TAPE and BIAS EQUALIZER switches to proper position (NORMAL/CROM/METAL)
• Set DOLBY NR to OFF
• Set MONITOR switch to TAPE position
• Press 400 Hz button
• Press REC and PLAY buttons, so the tape starts recording test signal. Now, set the MONITOR switch for a short back to SOURCE position, and observe FL-meters
and Led-graph displays, they will show like on picture I posted before.
For a proper recording adjustment, you should get the same readings with MONITOR on TAPE. To achieve that, just adjust REC-CAL and BIAS-ADJ knobs, they are each other dependent.
You can repeat this also with 10 kHZ oscillator, it will give you better adjustment on higher frequencies.
If you are not able to get the readings just right, than there is something wrong with tape or deck,
Like magnetized heads or similar.Double Dolby means that deck uses separate Dolby circuits for recording (Input) and Playback
(Output) amplifiers. Filter stands for standard MPX filter; you do not need to use it, unless you record from tuner.
Well, pinch roller on my deck was eccentric; I tried everything from brushing to polishing, still measured too much wow-flutter. Finally, I replaced it with the one I took from newer Technics / spare parts deck, fitted perfectly.Woow, a lot of typing in English. Funny for two guys from former YU…???
Puno pozdrava,
Ma, učio srpskohrvatski, bio u YU-Armiji...
Vintage,66 generacija.
Kad dobiješ deck, ako te još nešto bude zanimalo, slobodno mi šalji mail direktno, na davorin(...)acoustic-preference.si
