My local A/V store has this receiver on closeout for $1300 new (sealed box) does anyone have anything negative to say about this unit
Prior to spotting this I was leaning towards HK 8000 ($1750)

Thanks, guys for your input an the Yam & HK
I'm going to have it demo'd next to comparable amps (your right nightfly $2500) and will go from there
The RXV1 is infinitely better than the HK AVR 7000/8000.
It has much better bass management, processing power, and ease of use.
The amp section on the Yamaha is also better. While many Yamaha receivers tend to sound bright, their RXV1, and DSP A1/3090 series always managed to sound much more refined and smooth.
I would say $1300 is a pretty good deal on that unit. The only receivers to better the RXV1 start at around $2500.
Check out the Teac mini systems. Some of it is quite good.In Dallas you could get a refurb for 99.00 at Fry's.I bought one for a freind because I thought it sounded better then the Yamaha or Denon.

I own a hk 7000, same amp as 8000.
I took a Big Yammaha home and it isnt fit too be in the same room as the Harman Kardon.
It has a cool, lifeless sound, vs warm and rich for HK.
Only recommend Yamaha if speakers are overly warm.
Tuner and function wise, the Yamaha is well thought out.
Just that clinical sounding amp I didnt like.
Why not just get a 7000 ?
Save some money ?
whats on the 8000 you cant do without?
