Hi,Does anyone have recommendations for a good match for a pair of bridged Bel Canto EVO 200 Speakers? The front end is a Camelot Uther 24/192. The room is 15 X 18, but extends to two other rooms so it is effectively 15 X 35. The front wall must be the 15 width. The room is fairly lively with one of the sidewalls almost all windows.
I listen to mostly Jazz, Blues, and Classical at about 80-90db. My current speakers are MM Decappos, but they are overpowered by the Bel Cantos (a recent amp upgrade). The De Cappos sound great with the Bel Cantos, but with a power rating of 120wpch, and the Bel Cantos bridged at 360wpch I do not want to damage them.
My budget is up to 3K and used speakers would probably be the best way to upgrade.
Any thoughts on what I should consider?

Hi,Just want to say thanks to all of you for the suggestions. This forum is wonderful, and your help is appreciated. I will give as many suggestions as I can a try, and will report back on what worked for a future inmate.
Proac 1.5 was quite nice with the Evo.
Especially in the midrange.
Although, I did not quite like Proacs's top end - too silky and restrained for my taste.
Many people like this kind of presentation as 'smooth' and admittedly it can help tame many bright recordings.
To me, however, it's not truthful enough - I prefer more metallic 'zing' (rather than 'zsing') from cymbals.YMMV.
if you're interested in the lower eff two way style of speaker, check out the floorstanders in the proac response line.no offense to the poster below, but the evo and fidelio do not work properly together....horrified with the results really - unbalanced, poor integration of drivers, washed out midrange...just not impressed. originally i thought it was the baby krell integrated...had them replace it with a full suite of BC gear and the results barely changed. so it goes.
if anything, try something from focal as well. you'll find out how great the high end of your camelot really is...
and makes a quite a difference when you bridge it.altho, i concur Fidelio isn't the fastest
speakers around...
Hi Chiggy, I'm the poster below; BTW, I'm not offended at all for the comment, and neither I would like you to be offended by mine.
I really don't get the results that you had. You had bad results with the Krell and the EVO on the Fidelios? Maybe something bad had happened to the Fidelios before or maybe it’s the source or preamp that doesn't match with the rest? Anyway, I don't question your earring (or mine) but there was evidently something wrong in the system that you have listened. You can check my system in the Inmate systems if you want to check what was different, but for sure, fortunately, in my system, it’s clear and clean that the EVO and Fidelio can be matched successfully together. I recall someone here who was pointing at the EVO as being sluggish, slow and muddy. He finally found that it was his source that wasn’t a good match with the EVO; he bought the EVO and replaced its source. Sometime we’re just not pointing in the right direction when it comes to bad matches; it’s obviously easier to tell when we found a good match!
[I'm not offended at all for the comment]thats always good to hear...inmates are touchy i think...
[I really don't get the results that you had. You had bad results with the Krell and the EVO on the Fidelios?]
i'm glad your results differ from mine as mine were none to pleasant. i think the speakers were functioning according to manuf. specs...manager was helping me out. results were pretty much the same with both amps. though BC gear did more things right than krell in that room and situation.
[there was evidently something wrong in the system that you have listened.]
don't think so...i just didn't agree with the results. :-)

i did think it was the source...we tried several cd players and none were really that successful.
Chiggy,
I understand that you can disagree with the results because of preferences. But if you found the sound to be "horrible" (unbalanced, poor integration of drivers, washed out midrange) that tells me that there was obviously something wrong. The results are simply too different. An other inmate here (celery) has build a system with the Fidelio and the EVo, he also concludes that it makes an outstanding match (you can check his system in the Inmate Systems). Kuma here says that the EVo seems to be extremely sensitive with cabling, maybe that can be an explanation? Insufficient break-in period can leads to the results you had. I had wonderful results with Cardas Cross speaker cables (but I haven't bought them yet :( ).Anyway, it’s up to you to give them another chance or not.
Lynn, if you read this post, you have a demonstration that system matching is always *very* important! But if you can, give them a try!
You are lucky, you can find on audiogon a used pair of Verity Audio Fidelio for 3K. The Fidelios is a perfect match with the EVO. I have the Fidelio with only one EVO and I haven't found a better match. If the seller is near you or a reseller maybe you can audition before, but I'm sure that you will like it.here is the link on audiogon: http://cgi.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/auc.pl?spkrfull&1028077807&auc&3&4&
I use the 626R with my 200.2, and it is wonderful. In a bigger room, you need more radiating area. Even with upgrades, you'll come in under $3k. Take a look at www.ribbonspeakers.net for dealer info and pricing. I've put a link here for a review/comparison.
jonbee - Email me - I have some questions on these. Thanks,
Cut-Throat
but I didn't want to be accused of only trumpeting VMPS. However, I really think they should be a consideration (read that again) in this sort of situation. I run RM40's on a Spectron MII. These speakers work wonderfully with digital amplication imo.
Hi,I heard a pair of Bel Cantos driving a pair of Egglestone Speakers in my dealer's demo room early this year. The sound was very impressive! The bass was tight and clean and the speakers seemed to handle lots of power with no sweat even though we were turned the volume to 12 o'clock. Unfortunately, I could not remember which model, it could be the Isabel or Fontaine. Check out the link below.
Hearing is believing,
Kenji :-)
It was the Fontaines. Music oozing out from it was Very quiet and clean...
