Anyone heard the Rocket 750 speakers and compared them to b&w 805, 804 or kef? What do you think of these ?
Follow Ups:
The speakers should arrive at my house this week. I don't think they were designed to compete with high end B&W's but their drivers and cabinets appear to be higher quality than the ones used in 600 series B&W's. The tweeters are used in some high end speakers (Krell, Audio Psychic, etc.) and the cabinets appear to be well finished. I'll post my comments after I have a chance to play around with them later in the week.Jack
PS - anyone in the Chicago area with a pair of B&W's who would like to bring them by for a comparison is welcome. I am familiar with many of the B&W models (601's, Nautalus, etc.) but it's hard to compare speakers (for me at least) unless they are side by side in the same room. I should say, it is usually hard. If I really don't like a speaker's sound (on different amps, CD players, program material, etc.) I can usually remember something I don't like about it. However, if the difference is subtle, it's pretty tough.
Dont know much about rocket speakers... but I once had a friend named crockett
Who got his balls caught in a socket !!
Some son of bitch
Turned on the switch !
And crockett went up like a rocket !!!
Rockets are sold through http://www.AV123.com . They are a mail-order only company. The speakers are built with the same drivers that come in the Swan Diva's (also sold ny AV123). The speakers are built in China. The speakers have the same cabinet as the Diva's minus the outboard tweeter (B&W type of mounting). I heard that they were going to be sued over it, by B&W, so they changed the design. They are very competitively priced, but if the Rockets are like the Diva's, sound a little distant and a little weak in the midrange department, for my tastes. I have not heard the rockets, just basing it on what I know and heard by auditioning the Diva's.I hope this information helps.
The Swans used Hi-Vi drivers but the Rockets use Lyeco's built to Dick Pierce's specs to accomodate his unusual crossover design. The Rocket tweeter is a Vifa XT-25.Very different sounding from the Diva's! Much better dynamics from top to bottom and greater clarity on the mids with less chestiness. (750 vs. Diva 6.1) I find the imaging to be quite precise with a nice depth and width of soundstage.
bigwally,Thanks for the correction!
"I do think the cabinets look the same, though."Yep, same shop. Mark Schifter like their work so he developed a good working relationship with the plant that was building the cabinets for Swans.
Will post on this forum and on Harmonicdiscord.com. Not connected with the company, but the owner is a good guy who offered to come to my house for an evaluation when he is in town. My review will be very detailed but not very technical. I'm a music lover, not an engeneer. Thanks!
and I don't think they are of the same league with B&Ws.
but you say they can't be in the same league as B&W? How could you possibly know if you have never heard of them?
