Follow Ups:
Have owned Diva 2.1, and own currently own Axiom 3ti and GR Paradox1 (and Soliloquy 5, Merlin VSM, Maggie Tympanies, and several others) now. I think the Diva is simply too colored and unexpressive for me. Axiom 3ti is VG for the $, and I like it, but the Axiom 22ti is more accurate and a better value for $125 more. It costs about the same as the Ascend, and would be an interesting matchup. The Paradox has better cabinetry than either, and really is a contender for best speaker under $1500. It is a true high end speaker, in a very nice cabinet, in my opinion. I have not heard the Ascend, and personal taste and system matching is always a major factor, but both my wife and I are amazed at the GR; it is lively, open and detailed. It has blown out several highly regarded small speakers in my home, including the $1100 Soliloquy(previously my small speaker standard). Good listening!

Five inch woofers are not going to provide spl in the midbass and bass. Use a good sub.
I've owned the Ascend Acoustic CBM-170's for almost a year and can't imagine a better speaker for the money (although the G. R. Research, Adire, ACI, EFE, VMPS, etc.) should also have their say. What I really like about them is that for the price not only are they quite detailed, but that they're even more musical. If details are the "edges" of notes, the music is the "body" or "flesh" of notes. And these are full bodied for $360/pair. They are seem to be very well built and while the cabinet's not pretty (a pebbled black finish) it looks as if it could last forever. Excellent for most HT applications, it would be a killer match in a modest audio system (would need a sub in an average/large room).
