Greetings:Hyperion, I know your not a big fan of the older GP's. With my current system, Proceed BPA, PRE, CDP, should I just dump the GP's and start over or will moving to tube`s, either preamp or amp or both, be a better move. I guess my question is "Am I wasting my time trying to make the old GP's sing?"
Thank you for your time.

Greetings:Thanks for the responses.
I know I want to move toward tubes in this system. Especially in the preamp. I just can't seem to get the GP's to open up and sound 'live'.
But it sounds as though I may have to replace the speakers at some point. Thanks everyone.

Well moving to tubes will make the GP sound less nervous and more at ease. OTOH, it will not altogether cure its deficiencies like the slightly bright/forward lower treble and excess midbass. If anything, glary sounding tubes can worsen the treble, and plump sounding tubes can exacerbate the midbass. If I were the ones who got GP's, I'd gladly dump em for any of the classic series Sonus fabers.
I would actually do both. I would definitely would get some tubes. But I would also change the speakers. If you like Sonus Faber, which I do, check out the Signums which I have owned. They will Sing and provide you with stuff your missing.

What are you trying to change? "Making them sing" is a subjective position?...I found my GPs to get a bit edgey over time, but as I have upgrade the electronic's they have smoothed out considerably. Biggest improvement was removeal of Silver Streaks and placement of a Bel Canto Evo 200.2...Good Luck, jb
