Anyone out there enjoying their Mozarts without sand or shot in the base chambers? Too bad the base plugs aren't screw-ins. It seems too easy to damage the cabinets by forcing the current plugs into and, if necessary, out of the base. I've been enjoying my Mozarts as they came right out of the box. The bass response suits me fine.

Keep it empty. I've tried to fill my Mozart Signature speakers with sand but it just brought coloration and "hi-fi" sound. Their beautiful sense of openness just gone. Even if you just put the plugs onto empty chambers it degrades the sound.
Good luck and enjoy your Mozarts.

I've been loving my Mozarts for 3 months now and after talking with Pat both here and on the phone, I filled them with sand as soon as I got them home!! My only complaint, the speakers are on hardwood floors and I was vacuming the other day and I noticed a 1/4" high, nickle in diameter mound of sand under one of my speakers. Whether this was a result of settling I don't know but the plugs are in tight.
Anyway, I can't comment on the sound of these fabulous speakers without them filled as I've never heard them that way. Pat seems to know what he's talking about though and he helped me get the most out of my speakers.Associated Equip:

Johnny-Trust me on this- you have not heard Mozart until you have filled them with sand. As the importer, it was my duty to find out how drastic the sonic improvement was, and what the sand did to the speakers sound made the unfilled speaker sound broken. Lead shot is nice, but very toxic, and it makes moving the speaker around a real bear.

The sand makes a big difference. I did not have any real problems removing and reinstalling the plugs
