Okay, I've been trying to decide on a sub for months. I really like the aci for a lot of reasons. Anyway, I call them up and they tell me it will probably be like a 3-5 weeks before they can ship! Further, they tell me that as of the 20th the price is going up $50. Can I trust these people? Will they really ship in 3- 5 weeks or will I be waiting even longer? What about the price? I guess I'd like to feel more comfortable before giving out my CC#. TIA

You could always change your choice in finish if you don't want to wait, most (I was told ALL except walnut ~a week ago) are in stock... I ordered walnut in late November, and it's supposed to ship this week. No charge until sub is shipped...
Easy to answer that one:The Titan is easily worth the wait and price . . .
Yup, built mine from the kit. You will be hard pressed to find anything at this price as good.
Also, YOU CAN TRUST ACI!!!!! Orders are shipped as promised (my experience) and after the sale service is great as well.
Hey Mr. Franklin
I was in the same boat as you. I took the plunge last May. Very refreshing! You'll love the Titan II LE. You'll also find the ACI gang to be the absolute best. Glad to see the price going up, mine's gonna be worth more now:)! How often do you see that in audio?
I have placed 2 different orders from ACI and received great service both times. The speakers arrived both times on exactly the promised dates. I would order from them again in a heartbeat (great products, great prices, excellent customer service). For what it is worth, my last purchase was a Titan II kit (from their DIY division at www.subwoofers.com). It took me a couple nights to build the cabinet (very easy if you have some basic woodworking tools). I used the drawings on the internet site for the box and finished it with oak feet and an oak top so it looks exactly like the Titan II that they sell. I received the parts from ACI 2 days after I ordered it. If you went the DIY route (or had a cabinet maker make you the box), you could have the Titan II faster and cheaper (mine ended up costing me about $675 - a steal).
I would not mind building a Subwoofer from a kit, but the company does not offer cabinetry in their kits. They told me that would provide me with a finished cabinet at a cost of the finished speakers minus the price of the kit. No unfinished cabinets! - I was not impressed!

The only thing left for you to do would be to throw on some stain and varnish and turn a few screws to attach the components (this certainly doesn't reduce their cost much).Saving money on a speaker kit really means making your own cabinets.
It's about finishing the cabinets the way that you want them !!!!

for a Titan II LE in whichever wood you want without lacquer. I don't know if they would do it or not, but in my discussions with them I know they sometimes do special order woods, maybe you could special order without the lacquer. There is the very slightest gap between the wood and the inner black box, you could easily mask it with tape before you did your custom finish. Just an idea.
From their email advertisements, it looks like if you order by their deadline, you get the old price, irregardless of when they ship. IIRC, they are also good about not charging you until the until actually leaves in the hands of the UPS Courier. And yes, ACI is very reputable and safe, and I've not had any problems in my dealings with them.
Are you saying that if you place an order before the price increase, but the product won't ship until after the date of the price increase, that ACI is going to charge you the higher price?Regarding back order time: it is not unusual in specialty high-end audio to wait 4-8 weeks for delivery of a product. I know it is hard to wait for a new "toy", but you'll forget all about the long wait when that box appears on your doorstep.
Please let us know about the price issue.
I've dealt with ACI countless times over the years. One of the finest organizations I've ever spent money with. I'd bet my next paycheck that they charge the price in effect when the order is placed, not when it is shipped. The Titan II LE is WELL worth the wait!
JD,
I would be amazed if they did other than charge the price in effect when the order was placed. I asked the question so "MintFranklin" would ask the proper questions of ACI and relieve his anxiety over his purchase.I dealt with ACI many years ago and found them to be completely reliable, too.
got my 168S the other day! Sounds warm and rich in a small ported .5 cabinet. Done nuthin to the driver yet (tweeeeeeks!). After i build the BK16 (any other suggestions?) i will be looking for a sub. REL, Titan, Sonicraft (Madisound kit), Velodyne, other? I am enjoying thinking about the amazing decisions i need to make in the coming weeks. Do you like your sub choice with your Fostex???Thanks,
Godzilla
Yo, Godzilla,
You took the plunge, eh? Great! I was just talking with another Fostex builder about the 164 vs. the 168S, and said I chose the 164 primarily because the published response curve was flatter on the 164. But now that you are using the Sigma driver, I am very interested to hear if you notice anything amiss with its frequency response. If not, I may replace the 164 since the 168 is more efficient (and is better looking, too).I already had a pair of REL Strata IIIs when I built the Fostex, and am currently waiting for Dr. Hsu to send me a 1220HO for review. Other than that, I'm pretty much a virgin (is that even possible? ;-) ) when it comes to the other subs you mention. I did have a Velodyne F-1200R a few years ago, but the REL stomps it easily.
Please let us know about the FR on the Sigma!
Thanks,
JerryS
