Has anyone tried or is presently driving the Quad esl 57's with a single ended tube amp? If so with what results?
I know these two are technically a very poor match but that does not always mean they won't make music.
Thanks,
Ritchie

Richie,
I've not tried a SET set up with my esl 57's,but have heard some say the Leak stereo 20 (push pull EL84)to be very close.Esp.if you get the model with the earlier output transformer, can't remember the serial no's - I know I have the later O/T on my Leak, which seem to be a fabulous match for the ESL's.
I must come clean though and mention that I did find extra magic with the Leak and a pair of Lowther Super Acoustas, but alas the drive units need foam rot repair.
Best wishes,electric snowman

I was peroozing the web and I very recently stumbled upon this review, thought it might interest you: Bel Canto Seti40 Tube Amp.

Check out the last paragraph.
Hope this helps...

As far as electrostats go, the '57 is actually a fairly easy load.I drove a pair of 57's with modified Caztech amps (845 based SET) with very satisfying results. 57's also like OTL amps.
