New PSB stratus Gold i's or used Von schweikert 4's or 4.5's? So what should I get? Have you heard them both?
Follow Ups:
For me it's the Von's. I heard plenty loud, soundstage and quality superior, reasonable power input.Yes, I do prefer beer over wine, but only fine Czech pilsners.
Thank you all.
Hey,Report your impressions once you receive them! Von Schweikerts aren't a household name,,,,,, yet!

at www.audioreview.com. Thats ALOT of speaker for a thousand!!I'm tempted, and I have the new series, all of them!!!! Lets see, what room could they work in,,,,,,. Go get em!
The PSB's have such a dark signature, and they tend to constrict tone wise (as opposed to space). The VS are more open and natural of a sound.I somehwat like Todd's assessment, although I will spin it a bit - Goldis for party speakers, and VS for critical listening.
I'm very familiar with both the VR-4/4.5 and PSB Gold. Both great speakers but namely for different applications. (Both use the Vifa aluminum dome tweeter.) Both are very versatile, but the PSBs do need a true muscle amp- Rowland, Levinson, or Krell; where the Schweikerts could be used with good push-pull tube amps. The Schweikerts have more of a 3-D stage, and are more-ideal for critical listening applications. The PSBs however, are virtually indestructible. Put a monster Crown amp with the PSBs, and you'll get clean **loud** reproduction, which will wow those who like to drink beer and party 'til 3 am [-;. The Schweikerts OTOH, with the right associated equipment, will keep you up late as well, but more-refined (wine instead of beer), and won't play as loud.
VS For SURE!Don't worry about Tubes...I'm using Plinius SA-100...AWESOME!!!!
My friends cannot believe the sound.
Count me as a PSB proponent and owner. You are likely to do well with either, I've heard both and preferred the PSB but the differences were in audiophile hair splitting land.
No doubt in my mind you should go for the VS, like Jack said though, only if you have the room. And they like tubes also.Oz
The VR4's are fantastic and, can be had a bargain prices on the used market($1400-1600). See reviews of the 4's and the older line-up at www.vonschweikert.com "archive" section.
If space IS a concern and your want the latest "state of the art" technology from VSA listen to the VR3.5's. They are an 11 on the WOW scale, and very affordable relative to hi-end VALUE!Jack
