What would be a best bet for a small floorstander in a bedroom system. I want full deep bass response, open midrange. Must have a small footprint and work well close to a wall. New or used. I'm thinking Totem Staff but don't see many on the used market.

I was really stunned by this speaker ... they were driven by a el84PP integrated amp.
This set up gives deep bass while keeping a warm sound on instrumental ...

That money buys you Antal XS (getting a discount) or Zephyr XS (with some change to spare) both incredible speakers for the money.
No matter if Sam Tellig is plugging them for some bastard reasons (if that is the case, which I very much doubt), HE IS RIGHT ABOUT EVERYTHING HE SAYS ABOUT THEM.
(1) axiomaudio.com. The M50 or M60, $620 and $800 shipped, respectively. Check goodsound.com and soundstage.com for reviews of the line;
(2) Phase Technology Teatro 7.5 VDT. Great review in Audiophile Voice last (?) year;
(3) Vandersteen 1C. Is it too big?
I had the chance to listen very often the Totem Sttaf. It is indeed a very good speaker for the dollar but I don't think it would be appropriate for classical music. The speaker is not so precise (for highs and mids) compare to some other brands like B&W, JMLab or Castle. I would rely on these two brands if you concentrate on classical or maybe get the Totem Model One. It is so much superior to the Sttaf in term of precision but of course you will get less bass than the Sttaf.
The Polk RT800i is a very pleasant sounding speaker within your budget.
