Help!! As I'm a novice in the audiophile world and just starting to piece meal a system together I need assistance from any would be "Yodas" out there. I just purchased the ACI Sapphire/Titan II combination based on the positive reviews posted here and at other forums. Currently have no source of power (will be borrowing a friends Kenwood receiver) and need to get the most from my limited budget (apprx. $1000). Separates or a singular AV-Receiver? Will be purchasing the Emeralds at a later date to complete the home theatre system set up. Music accuracy is more important than home theatre, but still would like good performance in this arena. If recommend separates please go easy on the venacular as still learning the nuances of the audiophile world (as I'm required to adhere to the KISS principle due to my limited expierence!). Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance (sorry for spelling)
Follow Ups:
The Denon 3802 (I am assuming it's sound "qualitities" are comparable to the 3801 I have) would be a nice choice. So would some of the others mentioned (Outlaw, etc). With a bigger budget separates would offer more flexibility but....
Food for thought. An extreamly musical high current AVR produced this model year is the new 10 series of Harman/Kardons. H/K the inventor of the intagrated receiver amp, really put the push on this year to get back to thier roots and developed a machine that the others are playing catch up on. For instance, the H/K AVR 510 would fit nicely in your budget and supply you with rich, detailed music sound. It also handle the most demanding DVD's. I am sure your Titan II's would really sing with this machine. Don't overlook it in your travels what ever you do.
Are you talking about a five-channel AV system or two channel audio?
Again due to my inexpierence don't really know how to answer that basic question!! I'm guessing the 5 channel AV system would best satisfy my needs. Currently have a Sony 61 rear projection television and a Sony DVD player which are housed in an entertainment center(great room/vaulted ceiling 22'x24'). As my wife has placed conditional requirements (aesthetics) reference my piece meal system, I have been afforded limted rack space (lol). Also would like to be able have as much current HT technology as afforded on my limited budget without great loss in music capacity. Initially was looking at the Denon AVR-3802 as a possibility, but have read numerous poor reviews reference it's music reproduction. Specifically as it is a poor mate for the ACI speakers ("far to bright"), though I have not had the opportunity to listen to Denon other than in the showroom (i.e. residential performance). Basically looking for input as to the direction I should be basing my inquiries and listening auditions. I'm aware that "my ears" will be the best judge due to subjectivity, but many of the recommendations in this forum are for direct sales manufactures or high end audio retail (limited opportunites for actual audio audition). Also this will be the primary system I will be utilizing so I do need dual performance (at least for a few more years!!)Again any assistance is appreciated.
This helps. I think at the $1000 price point, you are going to be pretty much limited to a good 5 channel Dolby Digital rec. Separates are going to be beyond your budget. This is not a big issue as there certainly are good recievers to be had for $1000 and well under. The ones I'd consider first would be the Outlaw, Sherwood Newcastle, and HK. All are good quality. Start out by looking for the features that are important to you such as controls and connections. Consider where you'll be buying it from. If you don't feel comfortable with the seller, go elsewhere. Enjoy your search!
I would highly recommend the Outlaw 1050 receiver. There will be one in AA's Charity Auction.
