Altec Lansing Voice of the Theatre A6 from 1983.
Two 15" drivers in a ported enclosure with 1 Mantaray horn on top. 150 pounds each.
Follow Ups:
They look like 12" drivers to me. Compare them to the analog LPs sitting nearby. Also by comparison to the horns.
Click on the picture to expand and use a ruler in the horizontal plane on the top left driver to measure the outside diameter. Do the same to the LP at the bottom right of the left speaker and you will see. BTW, the LP is closer in the pic.
Thx mate :) R they good?
I've never heard them. Someone on the Lansing forums may know:
they're a pretty far sight different a listening experience to non-horn speaks! i use a pretty similar setup, but with 12" altec woofs-- but i've heard a lot of systems like that, and well tuned.. they'll knock yer socks off! i dunno about that particular system-- but 2 pairs of 515's and a decent compression driver up top with a well done crossover... you might never go back!thinkin' about investing your life to horns, are ya?
Come to think of it, I currently have two sets of horn speakers: JBL SVA's and JBL HLS's. They are both two-way designs. They're nothing like the Altec's though.
Nah. I haven't that heard many. I know that they are capable of being very good. I heard a couple of sets of vintage Altec's at Audiokarma recently. They are not my cup of tea.I have my own criteria for what I like, and what I have observed in speakers. I prefer three- or four-way designs just for starters. You may have been addressing VIVAnalogue though. He seems to have an interest.
