I'm having a problem with my REL Strata 5. I'm having what appears to be an intermittent grounding problem. If I leave the sub on it hums intermittently. It will be silent for hours and then randomly will start humming at a moderate level (usually in the middle of the night). I have it connected via the hi-level neutrik connector, however I have tried disconnecting the black lead and connecting an RCA lead to an unused input on my Pre-amp as a ground. I discovered last night at about 4am this didn't work.
Any advice on how I could stop the sub driving me crazy (intermittently) would be great.
Follow Ups:
"I'm having what appears to be an intermittent grounding problem."Make sure U have good continuity with regards to the black wire.
Disconnect the Neutrik connector and with a DVM, ensure U have solid continuity from the connector to the end of the black wire. U can do this by wiggling/moving the wire while U R measuring the continuity.
U could also check to see if the screw terminals inside the Neutriks connector are tight.
Also ensure U have a secure connection where U have the Black wire attached.
Cheers,
Pardon my ignorance, what's a DVM?
"Pardon my ignorance, what's a DVM?"Digital Voltage Meter.
I guess a better description would be DMM or Digital Multimeter.
U can pick up a cheap one that will do the job at Radio Shack for ~$20.
