which shows Mr Wilson sitting in his listening position fine tuning crossovers by ear so that even the buyers of his discontinued X-1 Grand SLAMM can get sonic upgrades.Authorities on either side of his head have to approve.Great.Down the line DevilDawgMom is having trouble with Wilson speakers from last December and the dealer is not much help.Perhaps Mr Wilson should fine tune his dealers first instead of spending so much time in his listening position.
Follow Ups:
Bill the K must be joking to suggest that Dave Wilson spend less time listening and more time landing on his dealers. He has Peter McGrath, and others, to do that for him. Reminds me of an earlier posting criticizing that ad-- how can an old geezer like Wilson hear well enough to fine-tune his speakers? Well, I'm on the verge of geezerdom myself, and my hearing for music is fine. We can assume Dave has still got it. Sorry his stuff is so expensive; that accounts for a lot of the carping at Wilson, but to me my WattPuppy 8s were worth it. Particularly now with the Stealth Indra Interconnects, (and thanks to whomever on the Cable Asylum first alerted me to them.)
and he seemed to be a knowledgeable, straight up sort of guy. My auditions of his speakers have also been favorable except I cannot see the justification for his pricing. However, I've found many of the Wilson ads in Stereophile to be silly if not outright laughable. My favorite is still the one I posted on over a year ago that "showed" a technician making a cold solder connection on a crossover (holding solder wire to soldering tip first, rather than heating component and then applying solder). LOL
Taking potshots at Wilson is a favorite sport on Speaker Asylum. Concerning that laughable ad, perhaps the component has just been heated, and the solder and soldering tip are now being applied. But I dunno; I'm a lousy solderer, although I did replace one of the woofers in a Puppy 5 myself. It keeled over when one of its "puppy paws" fell out. But I'm glad M3lover likes the sound of Wilsons; he's right that they are too damn expensive, but the WattPuppy 8 (now finally broken in) is the only speaker for me.
Apply heat to BOTH metal pieces simultaneously with tip of iron, then touch solder wire where pieces join opposite of the solder pencil/gun tip. As soon as solder flows, pull both tip and solder wire away.I am not an expert on electronics but I have built several kits successfully (meaning they worked on turn-on). :-)
