I've been hassling JMR for a couple of months now about this, but he tends not to tell me anything until things are about ready to roll. Here is a paraphrase of a note I got last week, which I have also posted on my website:New JMR Emeraude, replacement for Evolution 3, due this summer...finished prototype due in May... new tweeter, neodymium magnet with a “w” shaped suspension...sounds really natural, with no harshness…using woofer from the Concorde, with a phase plug that gives incredible results in the midrange... 8 ohm system versus the Evo3 that was 4 ohms, so it should be easier to drive...
That's about it. Should hit the streets in the US for around $4900 based on what he says about the projected price for France.
Thanks Bob.
Do you know if it is a fabric dome tweeter like those below it? Or a Ribbon Tweeter like those above it?
What are the dimensions?
Tweeter still on top?
What sensitivity rating?
I'll see if I can get anything further on this, but I'm not optimistic. As an educated guesser, I would say fabric tweeter, top-mounted, around the same size as the EV3. But a guess is just a guess.
Aha, this just in from la france:Yes, it is a fabric tweeter.
Yes, it’s mounted on top in its own enclosure like the Evolution3.
The sensitivity is 89db in 8ohms.
The enclosure is the same size as the Evolution3.
A BBC sound engineer. The newer products to be sure have a romantic presentation and tonal balance, but these new speakers are all more open and detailed, too. Of course, when i say "all", I mean the few i have heard.
Oh, he has always wanted to get closer to the music, which explains the evolution of his speakers some. But listening to even the new ones alongside Audio Notes, for example, demonstrates that they are still thoroughly Reynauds. They still lead with warmth and body. They will never sound British, at least not contemporary British. But there is a hint of the old Spendor BC1 in them!
